It is locate at the side of a mountain range with the name of the village, where the most famous mountains are the picos del Pinar and the mountain of San Cristóbal. It is one of the most rainy villages of the Iberian Peninsula, with an annual average rain level of more than 2.200 litro/m2.

its environment consists of a high mountain range with amazing surroundings, including one Reserve of Spanish Ibex and a Spanish Fir tree forest, which attracts an increasing tourism. Another fact which helps us to understand the raise of tourism at this area is the population, charming and nice as well as the popular cookery, tasteful and well done, as well as an interesting hotel and rural accomodation offer. Grazalema is a cattle raising region with some orchards and an excellent production of cheeses, whose demand is also increasing, and also with a raising wool industry, mainly at the work of blankets.

About Grazalema wrote even French sources in relationship with the Spanish Independence war against Napoleon, due to the resistance of the village and its population. At least to the beginning of the 20th century, Grazalema was on the natural way to Gibraltar, and for this reason was a route also of bandits and smugglers.

It has got an important baroque style church, consisting of three naves, with a vault on the crossing nave and another one, called of the dawn, made of stone and with an oval form, consisting of a tribune and also a vault.

The main festive day takes place on july, 16th, at the Virgin of the Carmele day and the Fair take place on august, from 23th to 26th.
